MARGARITO DEFEATS JONES V MARGARITO DEFEATS JONES VIA TECH DECISION IN 7 Photo: German Villasenor Chihuahua, Mexico (September 2, 2017) In front of a full crowd at the Gimnasio Manuel Bernardo Aguirre (which houses the State University basketball team) Former four time welterweight world champion, Antonio ''The Tijuana Tornado'' Margarito, (41-8, 27KOs) defeated the very tough and capable Carson Jones, (40-12-3, 30KOs) in a seventh round technical decision. Margarito controlled the early rounds, despite working through a bloody gash on his right eye, inflicted during an accidental second round head clash, leaving him to deal with it throughout the fight, Jolting Margarito with a hard shot upstairs in the fifth, the Tijuana fighter slowed down the pace as Jones stepped up the pressure. Jones, went on to lose a point for repeated headbutts in the same round. By the end of the seventh, it was decided Margarito couldn't continue due to the cut suffered in the second round, sending the fight to the scorecards. Scores were 67-65, 67-65 and 68-64 all for Margarito. Margarito, now 40-8-1 (27KOs) studied his foe in the first couple of the fight with the vacant WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight title on the line. Using his long range jab and lessening the impact coming his way by rolling with some shots, eventually making the incresingly tiring Alvarez, allowed Margarito to gradually take the rounds in, busting up the Guadalaran fighter's left eye and dropping him with a series of shots in the eight frame. Ya paro los rounds entrados, Margarito tenia el ojo izquierdo danado, y Ramon el derecho. Sin importar, la presion de Margarito pago dividendos en el octavo round, en cual conecto y tumpbo al peleador de Guadalajara. At the behest of Canelo Alvarez, who was instructing his older brother in between rounds, and a sense of urgency, Alvarez came back strong in the tenth and final round, although it would be too little-too late overall.
Margarito did get his left eye damaged in the final rounds, but when all was said and done, the fighter walked away with the adulation of his rabid fan base with scores of 95-94 for Alvarez and 97-92 (twice) for Margarito. With the loss, Alvarez saw his record go to 23-5-2 with 15 KOs.

Margarito Wins Comeback fight, Despite a sixth round Knockdown Photo by German Villasenor
Showing some ring rust, following an almost four year retirement, and hadn't had enough time to really heal his surgically-repaired right eye, which was damaged during his fight against Manny Pacquiao, Margarito had his doctor's seal of approval to fight once more. In Paez jr., who came in a supreme form, knowing full well the training regime by Margarito as they are both friends and have worked camps together in the past, knew full well he could not understimate Margarito coming into the fight. Margarito warmed up to the task by the second round, working his usual amount of punches thrown on the inside against the smaller Paez. Paez would explode with eye-pleasing combinations in spots, something which spelled near disaster for the Tijuana fighter in the sixth round, when a jarring right hand uppercut exploded unto Margarito's very sturdy chin, with a delayed reaction and some other punches thrown in, Margarito went crashing on his back unto the canvas. Under very wobbly legs, but showing a ton of heart, Margarito got up, threw back as much as he could, managing to gain some time and get out of the round. Paez
came out strong in the seventh, trying to finish off his opponent, but
soon spent much needed energy, with Margarito recuperating, and working
on the inside and at-long range, avoiding for the most part the mid-distance,
which Paez is at his most effective. Margarito went on to land an inordinate amount of uppercuts, something which Paez somehow managed to absorb, with the last two rounds, a spent bullet, barely managed to last the distance, with Margarito nearly scoring the stoppage in the final moments of the fight. Scores were 95-94, 97-93 and 96-93 weigh-in pics All Photo: German Villasenor Antonio Margarito makes ring return this Saturday margarito-vs-jorge-paez-jr-on-bein-sports-en-espanol antonio-margaritos-return-set-march-5th-mexico-city antonio-margarito-vows-retire-from-boxing-if-paez-wins margarito-returns-paez-jr-saturday-night For more and latest information, stories and reports, click HERE LATEST NEWS REGARDING MARGARITO'S RETURN ON MARCH 5TH Click Link HERE FOR VIDEOS CONCERNING HIS RETURN, PLEASE CLICK HERE Tony in the gym with wife Lorena, getting and staying in shape en route to another run at another world title
